In its latest update, Tinder has introduced a new algorithmic feature called Smart Photos which registers how others respond to your opening profile picture, notes each response as others swipe on your profile and changes the order of your pictures accordingly, to show the best ones first resulting in better match making.
According to the resident sociologist at Tinder, Dr. Jess Carbino, people tend to swipe left more often if you are –
- Not smiling
- Covering your face, even a small portion
- In a group of people
- Wearing a hat
- Wearing any kind of glasses
According to Tinder, Smart Photos has led to a 12% increase in matches based on its testing.
Smart Photos is another addition in a series of new features by Tinder. A couple of weeks back they introduced Tinder Boost, letting users pay to have their profiles promoted/boosted for a 30 minute period. There was also a partnership with Spotify that lets users find potential matches based on their shared taste in music.
